Coming off two tough road losses at No. 7 Kentucky and Florida this past week, the Ole Miss women’s basketball team (12-12, 2-8 SEC) returns home and hosts Alabama (10-14, 0-10 SEC) tonight.
In their first meeting this season, the Lady Rebels won 69-55 in Tuscaloosa. Ole Miss had their best offensive performance of the season, shooting a season-best 66.7 percent from the field. The Lady Rebels have lost the six games since and look to snap that losing streak and get back to their winning ways.
Senior forward Nikki Byrd and sophomore guard Valencia McFarland continue to be bright spots for the Lady Rebels as the only players averaging double figures in scoring.
McFarland leads the Rebels at 13.2 points per game, while Byrd nearly averages a double-double (13.1 ppg, 9.5 rpg). Byrd also ranks seventh in the nation with 12 double-doubles this season.
Alabama rides a 10-game losing streak with losses to Arkansas and No. 20 Georgia this past week. Sophomore guard Jasmine Robinson leads the team in scoring, averaging 11.3 points per game, and junior guard/forward Erin Hogue averages a team-high six rebounds per game for the Crimson Tide.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from the Tad Smith Coliseum. It is “Tickled Pink at the Tad Pad” night when fans who wear pink will be eligible to win prizes from Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. There will also be a silent auction located in the concourse.
