Thank you for publishing the article, “SPEAKING OF THAT: Keep the bars open later to control DUIs,” in the Thursday edition of the DM.

Dear Editor,

It seems like everyone and their brother has his own social networking platform. In the beginning, when social networks were being established, there were only a handful, like MySpace and Facebook. But in the intervening years, more social networks have been created and many have risen around already existing services.

Last year, I went through recruitment and joined a sorority. I met one of my best friends in that sorority, but overall, the Greek scene wasn’t for me. It took up too much of my time and cost too much money.

I met one of my best friends in that sorority, but overall, the Greek scene wasn’t for me. It took up too much of my time and cost too much money.

So I dropped.

That being said, I understand why girls go through recruitment.

It’s truly an experience all its own, and I’m glad I did it.

Like most college towns, Oxford has more than its fair share of drunk drivers. I applaud the city’s recent efforts to crack down.

“We might not win em all, but we’ve never lost a party.”

Following the loss to Jacksonville State I was presented with that statement as a friend helped himself to another drink. To be honest I wanted a drink or two myself, primarily to forget the sting of a loss to a non-Division I team. But that exclamation really stuck with me because it echoed an attitude that has been present in the Ole Miss fanbase since possibly the end of the John Vaught era.

Racial reconciliation will never happen.

Racial reconciliation will never happen.

Since race is the first part of racial reconciliation, it can first be taken into account. The problem with this is that race is an imagined thing.

There is nothing biologically different about a white, black or Chinese person.

Contrary to any and all rumors you may have heard (or hopes and dreams you may have had), I did not graduate in May, nor was I thrown into a rampaging river or stabbed in my sleep over the summer.

What I hope to do this year is limit political commentary (of course, this being an election year, some will pop up from week to week, especially as we approach November), in favor of being more chill and – hopefully – fully, regaling you with anecdotes about life on this beautiful campus.

As a former graduate and current doctorate student at the University of Mississippi, I was appalled at the choice of song played over the stadium loudspeakers during breaks at the football game on Saturday.

While opinions vary from person to person, there are some instances where the general consensus is so strong that to go against it is to go against universal acclaim. The universe is much bigger than you are, so while you’re entitled to your opinion of the Grove and its festivities, you’re going to have trouble convincing anyone that has experienced it that the hype isn’t warranted.

As I walked around campus today, I noticed a sweet smell that brought back memories of jubilation and despair, victory and defeat.

Nowadays, I think everyone is suffering from an information overload. I definitely consume information at a crazy rate. I’ve come across a pretty interesting term called selective ignorance.

If there’s one thing on Facebook that annoys me the most, it’s the “like” button. No one knows how to use it. It seems simple at first glance, but almost every user interprets the use of the button differently.
