The California Honeydrops will be performing at The Lyric in Oxford on Wednesday, Oct. 2. This stop is a part of their Fall in Love Again Tour in support of their album, “Soft Spot” which was released in 2023.
Originally from Oakland, Ca., The California Honeydrops formed in 2007 and are known for their hit songs “All Day, All Night” and “When It Went Wrong,” which have been streamed 25.3 million and 19.8 million times on Spotify, respectively. Their music has been streamed more than 200 million times and placed in a variety of TV and films, including ‘Dead To Me,’ ‘Alaska Daily,’ ‘Black-ish’ and more.
The California Honeydrops are known for their sound that harkens back to the days before rock n’ roll was king, with easy blues licks, smooth saxophone and a lead singer whose voice is as warm and sweet as the honey they take their name from.
Some students shared that they are excited to see the band perform because of their ambiance.
“The vibes, the singing … it’s all pretty cool,” Cameron Price, a junior political science major said. “I’m excited they’re coming to Oxford.”
The group has also shared stages with music legends like B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Dr. John and Allen Toussaint.
The band members include lead singer Lech Wierzynski, drummer Benjamin Malament, saxophonist Yanos “Johnny Bones” Lustig, keyboard and guitar player Lorenzo Loera, bass player Beaumont Beaullieu, trombonist Oliver Tuttle, saxophone and clarinetist Leon Cotter and trombone and sousaphonist Miles Lyons.
“The rhythm of the guitar and the drums,” Kendall Betzer, a freshman criminal justice major, said. “I’m excited they’re coming to Oxford … they can play,” Betzer said.
Tickets start at $40 for general admission and run up to $67 for balcony seating. They can be purchased online at The Lyric’s website or on The California Honeydrops’s website. Doors for the show open at 7 p.m.
