Caden Prieskorn poised to shine in second year

Ole Miss Tight End Caden Prieskorn, who was named to the John Mackey Award preseason watch list for the nation’s best tight end, has displayed perseverance and potential throughout his time with the Rebels.

Prieskorn began his football career at the University of Memphis as a walk-on quarterback. During his time with the Tigers, he trained and strengthened his physique in order to play as a tight end and transferred to Ole Miss after the 2022 season.

His Ole Miss debut began four games into the season at Alabama, where he recorded one catch for 21 yards. Prieskorn’s 2023 campaign season saw him snag 30 passes for 449 yards.

While the tight end had only four receiving touchdowns, Prieskorn’s performance on the field proved he can be a game changer.

What really made Prieskorn stand out to Rebel fans was his two touchdowns, 10 receptions for 136 yards, a two-point conversion and offensive MVP award in Ole Miss’ NY6 Peach Bowl win over an elite Penn State University team.

After the Rebels 27-20 home win against Arkansas last season, Prieskorn lost his father, Jerry Prieskorn, after a long fought battle with colon cancer. Prieskorn’s father greatly influenced his decision to play football, especially at the collegiate level.

After the Rebels historic 11-win season, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin brought in several high profile offensive players from the portal including Virginia Tech tight end Dae’Quan Wright, who was also named to the John Mackey Award watch list at the beginning of this season.

With more targets available, including wide receivers Tre Harris and Jordan Watkins, Prieskorn’s touches might decrease; however, his impact on the team will continue to be significant.

In what will be his last season at the college level, Prieskorn has already shown enough to warrant looks from NFL scouts and will likely get to play in the league. If he keeps the momentum from last season, the Rebels’ offense could be even better than what Ole Miss fans are anticipating.
