Deedee Hagemann, the star women’s basketball player from Michigan State University, commited to the Lady Rebels on Saturday evening, April 13, much to the delight of Ole Miss Women’s Basketball Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin.
Hagemann averaged 12.3 points, 5.2 assists and 2.4 rebounds at MSU last season. The 5-foot-7-inch senior is a combo guard with a strong skill set. She is quick in transition, defends well for her size and can fluctuate between the point and shooting guard positions.
In her junior year with the Spartans, Hagemann earned second-team All-Big Ten honors on the heels of her exceptional 2023 season. Her star power was evident among the entire Big Ten, as she led her position in assists/turnover ratio (2.84), a record-breaking achievement for MSU.
She also ranked seventh in the Big Ten in assists, with 5.2 per game, and she was the third-highest scorer on her team, averaging 12.3 points per game
The Lady Spartans finished fourth in the Big Ten and were seeded ninth in the NCAA tournament. However, they were bounced in the first round by the University of North Carolina, losing 59-56.
Hagemann fills a couple of gaping holes in Ole Miss’ roster. After a duo of point guards entered the transfer portal, the Lady Rebels suddenly had a need for both production and depth. The former Spartan solves both of these issues, as she has proved to be able to fill a facilitating and scoring role in the past.
Coach McPhee-McCuin has made her first offseason acquisition by bringing in Hagemann. After notching an impactful portal class last season, it is safe to say that Ole Miss is nowhere near finished and might make more headlines as more transfers come to their final decisions.
