Vanessa “Nessa” Bonner was crowned Homecoming Queen, Jakota White was elected Mr. Ole Miss and Betsy Vise was elected Miss Ole Miss in campus runoff elections on Thursday, Sept. 19. The winners were announced at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday on the steps of the Lyceum.
The winners expressed their joy, shock and gratitude for the encouragement and support they received throughout their campaigns.
“I could not do this without every single person here and just every single voter in general. I’m so thankful for the amount of support that I received the past two weeks,” Bonner said.
White shared Bonner’s sentiment and appreciation for the people involved in helping him become Mr. Ole Miss.
“I don’t even have words. I’m speechless,” White said. “I am excited, I am honored, I’m really proud and I’m really, really grateful.”
Vise said that she was surprised and grateful to be elected Miss Ole Miss.
“I just really … didn’t even know it was possible,” Vise said. “So many people have stood behind me this week and put in so much hours and love.”
Caleb Ball won the crown of Homecoming King in Tuesday’s first round of campus-wide elections.
ASB Attorney General Alex Kipping acknowledged the hard work that the candidates put into the process of campaigning and elections.
“Win or lose, I’m so proud of every candidate that put themselves out there and wanted to be a part of this experience (to) better their community by showing their love for this university and what it means to them,” Kipping said. “And I think that’s something that they should all take pride in for years to come.”
