It’s been two days since the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department arrested Fort Worth native Brandon Theesfeld for the murder of Ole Miss student Ally Kostial, and there is still no bond hearing scheduled.
According to Major Alan Wilburn, there will be no hearing until Theesfeld’s lawyer files a motion to obtain one.
Theesfeld was arrested on Monday morning at a gas station in South Memphis. Officers with the Memphis Police Department swarmed the station after a patrolling officer noticed a truck matching the description of Theesfeld’s was parked at a gas pump.
Investigators also had been tracking Theesfeld’s cell phone, which led them just over the Mississippi-Tennessee state line.
Lafayette County deputies then arrested Theesfeld before bringing him back to the Lafayette County Detention Center to be booked at 3:45 p.m. The 22-year-old was charged with murder.
Kostial’s body was found on Saturday morning in Harmontown, a community around 30 miles north of Oxford.
Kostial, a marketing major, was taking courses and working for Campus Recreation as a group fitness instructor this summer. Peter Tulchinsky, director of Campus Recreation, told The Daily Mississippian that the department is “shocked and saddened” by the death of Kostial.
“Ally had a tremendous spirit and radiated a positive energy that uplifted those in her presence,” Tulchinsky said. “We send our deepest condolences to Ally’s family and friends.”
Lynn Holler, a Missouri native, started a GoFundMe fundraising campaign to help the Kostial family with funeral and interment expenses. As of today, the campaign has raised $16,380.
