Katherine “Katie” Lowe, a third-year University of Mississippi School of Law student, has been pronounced dead. Her cause of death is currently unknown.
The Ole Miss Law Student Bar Association (SBA), of which Lowe was a member, issued a statement regarding her death in an Instagram post on Friday, April 17.
“As she neared the end of her law school journey, Katie (Lowe)’s absence feels especially heavy for those who shared classrooms, friendships and everyday moments with her over the last three years,” the post said. “Our community is heartbroken, and she will be deeply missed by those who knew her.”
Lowe was set to graduate from the School of Law in May. She also served as Executive Articles Editor for the Mississippi Law Journal.
“Katie Lowe was an absolute blessing to anyone she encountered . . . Her kindness was unmatched,” a member of the Mississippi Law Journal said. “When tragedies such as this occur, it is difficult to comprehend. Ever since the news broke, the law school has both felt a sense of somberness as we grieve, along with a sense of unity as we lean on one another. We, the (Mississippi Law) Journal and the law school, have received so much joy from Katie, and she will certainly be remembered.”
The SBA encouraged law students who need support to reach out to School of Law Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Kate Forster or law school counselor Zeina Ramadan.
The University Counseling Center and UMatter are also available for free to students needing support.
