Whether you are a college student interested in having a good time with your friends or a parent looking forward to their child’s first Halloween celebration, Oxford is hosting events for all types of audiences this weekend. From jump scares to family-friendly spooks, there are events across town for every person.

Haunted Library Tour

When: Oct. 30 at 12 p.m.

Where: J.D. Williams Library

The J.D. Williams Library is inviting students to gather for a tour that showcases all the scary secrets hidden along books in the old shelves. Interested students will meet at the second-floor circulation desk at 12 p.m. and embark on a journey of spooky fun facts and infamous ghost stories while learning more about the history of the library. The tour is free and requires no prior registration.

Oxford Ghost Tour

When: Available daily throughout October.

Where: Meets at 1102 Jefferson Ave.

Now with a special Halloween edition, this tour through the historic center of Oxford lasts about one hour, covering roughly 0.3 miles with benches available at multiple stops. Participants will hear tales of the 1852 railroad murder plot, local trials from 1902 and Civil War events. The tickets must be purchased beforehand on the website and cost $15 per adult and $10 per child.

Haunted Honors College Basement Party

When: Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College basement

The infamous Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College’s basement — often referred to as “the dungeon” by students — will host students for a night of tricks, treats and creepy fun. On Oct. 28, starting at 6:30 p.m., the honors college will run activities such as pumpkin painting, cookie decorating, board games and karaoke. Students do not need to be in the honors college to attend.

Code Pink: Fang Banger

When: Oct. 31 at 9 p.m.

Where: The Lyric Oxford

Code Pink, the local drag show and social event, is hosting the Halloween Fang Banger at The Lyric Oxford on Halloween night. Attendees can dance and watch local drag queens who never fail to impress with their entertaining performances. This will mark the fifth annual Fang Banger night that Code Pink has hosted. Costumes are encouraged, but regardless of what creature you decide to be, dancing the night away is obligatory.

The Oxford Housing Authority’s Trunk-or-Treat

When: Oct. 30 from 2:30-5:30 p.m.

Where: 900 Molly Barr Road

Presented by Five Horizons Health Services, this family-friendly event features costumes, candy, local vendors and community fun. The event will take place on Friday, Oct. 30, from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at Oxford Housing Authority at 900 Molly Barr Road. Admission is free.
