Executive officers of the University of Mississippi Faculty Senate have publicly condemned the Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees’ handling of the chancellor search, according to a statement released on Friday. 

In addition to the lack of transparency, the statement says that the Executive Committee condemned the premature termination of the process, the deselection of applicants, the mishandling of the chancellor announcement and the physical removal of protesters at the press conference. 

It also says that the committee is concerned that this process has caused “immeasurable harm to (the) institution and its reputation.” 

Earlier on Friday, the IHL planned to have a press conference at The Inn at Ole Miss, but the meeting was cancelled after protestors disrupted the announcement. Instead, a phone conference with the newly chosen chancellor, Glenn Boyce, was held for members of the media. 

The IHL only completed 12 of the original plan’s 20 steps, and Boyce was not brought to the Oxford campus as a preferred candidate before being unanimously chosen by the board.
