
The Ole Miss men’s and women’s tennis teams played in four matches over the weekend. The women’s team traveled to Palo Alto, Calif., to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend. They secured a big win against Utah but dropped game two against Stanford.
The men’s team hosted Tulane and Georgia Southern and defeated both opponents.
Women’s Tennis
Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisová, who improved to 4-0 in dual doubles, started off strong against Utah and secured the doubles point early for the Rebels.
Lucie Petruzelova and Andrea Nova picked up their first dual doubles win of the season with a score of 6-3 — marking Petruzelova’s 60th doubles victory and first as a Rebel.
Another Ole Miss duo, Rachel Krzyzak and Brooklyn Olson, were tied 5-5 before they snatched another point in doubles.
Kareisová struck again for the Rebels in her singles match and simultaneously became the only Rebel to have won all four of both her singles and doubles matches this season.
After starting off with a 3-0 lead, Ole Miss let Utah claw their way back to tie the match. Nova dominated Utah’s Hayley Roberts in the third match 6-1 to secure a win for the Rebels.
To start off Ole Miss’ matches against Stanford, Leclercq-Ficher and Kareisová won another doubles match against the Trees, making them 5-0 on the season in doubles matches.
The Rebels dropped a doubles match to Stanford 6-2 and four singles matches. Stanford took the victory 4-2.
The Ole Miss Women’s Tennis team’s next contest is in Tusla, Okla., against Tulsa and Kansas City on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Men’s Tennis
Matthieu Chambonniere and Benjamin Martin got the ball rolling for the Rebels against Tulane with a 6-0 win.
Kai Milburn and Marcel Kamrowski made their Ole Miss debut and secured the doubles point and each earned a singles victory in their separate matchups. The pair captured a 6-4 win to clutch the second Rebels victory of the day.
Noah Schlagenhauf put the Rebels up 2-0 in singles, marking his first-ranked win and his 12th singles win of the season.
Milburn, Kamrowski and Chabonniere showcased their skills and secured singles victories. After losing to Tulane last year, the Rebels delivered a win this season.
In the second match of the weekend, the Rebels started off with an early setback and lost a doubles point to Georgia Southern. Julia Calac turned the tide of the game and dominated his opponent to earn his 11th singles win of the year.
Milburn brought the heat in set two and took the match point for the Rebels. With the Rebels in a narrow lead by one point, Loan Lestir secured the win over his competitor to secure the Rebels’ victory over Georgia Southern.
The Ole Miss Men’s Tennis team will play their next set of games against Belmont on Feb. 8 at 10 a.m and 2 p.m. at home.
