Hundreds gathered in front of the Lyceum on Tuesday night, excitedly awaiting the results of the 6,862 votes cast in this year’s personality elections.
Senior public policy leadership major Christina Lawler was named homecoming queen with 52.54 percent of the vote.
“It means the world to me,” Lawler said. “I can’t believe that I was even selected to be able to run for something like this, and I’m just so proud to be able to represent Ole Miss.”
Senior public policy leadership and journalism major Savannah Smith won Miss Ole Miss with 80 percent of the vote.
“The position of Miss Ole Miss has the opportunity to make students feel seen, heard and appreciated,” Smith said. “I just love the university so much, and I was so honored to have the opportunity to do this. It is so humbling to think the students here wanted to be be a part of something with our campaign, our Ole Miss.”
Mr. Ole Miss candidates Tucker Fox and Chancellor Zaugg are headed into a runoff this Thursday after earning 29.13 percent and 20.76 percent of the vote, respectively.
“I’m honored that people voted for me. Everyone is awesome. It’s an honor and privilege, and I’m excited for the next step,” Zaugg said. “I don’t know if people really realize how much I love them, and the support for this campaign has been incredible.”
“The Ole Miss family is something everyone on this campus can relate to. No matter where you come from or what you do, everybody is a part of this amazing place,” Fox said. “This campaign was about the Ole Miss family. There’s a difference in the way you treat people here.”
Voting in the runoff will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
“I’m doing this for y’all. I love y’all, and I’m trying to stay humble and hungry for everyone,” Zaugg said.
“We love y’all. I’m hoping for the same kind of turnout and love for this campus,” Fox said.
Winners of female campus favorites were Caroline Block, Hayley Day, Olivia Dear, Bradyn Eaves and Eliza Neely. The announced winners of male campus favorites were Clifton Carroll, Seth Dickinson, Cody Letchworth, Chauncey Mullins and Bill Pringle.
Abbie Grant won freshman maid with 47.44 percent of the vote, Scout Treadwell won sophomore maid with 34.37 percent of the vote, Mary Payne Dillard won junior maid with 32.93 percent of the vote and Madison Phillips won senior maid with 41.05 percent of the vote.
Voting on the mascot does not end until 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29.
