Ole Miss lead by 17 at halftime, by 10 with 8:10 to play and by 9 with 5:32 remaining. Then Breein Tyree, the SEC’s leading scorer, picked up his fifth foul, and the Rebels fell apart. They didn’t score a field goal for the remaining 5:15, allowing Auburn to mount a late game comeback and send the game to overtime.
The Rebels mounted a comeback of their own in the first overtime, as Devontae Shuler hit clutch bucket after clutch bucket en route to a career high 26 points. But Shuler’s late-game heroics weren’t enough, as Ole Miss fell 83-82 in double overtime to Auburn.
Following the game, an understandably disappointed Kermit Davis said “We don’t look like a 1-6 team. We don’t feel like one and we don’t play like one, but we are one.”
