The 2026 Associated Student Body spring elections have officially concluded with the announcement of Trey McKean as ASB vice president for the 2026-27 school year.
McKean, a Fairhope, Ala., junior studying public policy leadership, was announced as the winner of the election on the steps of the Lyceum on Thursday, March 26. He won with 691 votes, or a 51.68% share.

McKean expressed relief and shock, acknowledging the team that supported him throughout the campaign.
“It’s just disbelief. I’ve worked really hard for this and I could not have done without the people next to me,” McKean said. “This election wasn’t just about me. It’s about everyone who put a little piece in it, everyone who came out and tabled for hours in the d— sun, for hours on end, for days on end. I’m glad we finally did it. That’s just a big sigh of relief.”
As vice president, McKean will serve as presiding officer over the ASB senate and coordinate both formal and informal senate meetings. The vice president also appoints members to the legislative council, an advisory body which assists in legislative matters and selects legislative aides, researchers and secretaries for senate committees.
McKean plans to hold meetings with senators to understand each member’s goals and visions for the year.
“Senate isn’t just me, it’s all 50 of those senators. Like I said in the debate (on March 19), I want to sit down with each one of them and see their ideas,” McKean said.
He also wants to prioritize student body feedback during his term.

“I also want to get started focusing more on student involvement — student opinion forms. We need to revamp them … refresh them. We need to make sure we’re actually listening to students instead of just doing our own thing,” McKean said. “Adjustments are going to be made, but the previous administration did an absolutely fantastic job, and I just hope to fill a bit of those shoes.”
McKean and sophomore public policy leadership and international studies major Josie McCarey were announced as the two runoff candidates in the vice presidential race on Tuesday, March 24, after none of the original five vice presidential candidates secured a majority of the student body vote.
McKean will join the other ASB executive members for the 2026-27 school year, who were announced Tuesday.
Junior public policy leadership major OC Williford will lead as ASB president, while junior public policy leadership and English major Caroline Croley retained her position as secretary. Sophomore public policy leadership and accountancy major Jackson Doss will serve as treasurer, junior public policy leadership major Lucy Allen will serve as attorney general and junior biomedical engineering major Ashlyn Minga will serve as judicial chair.
The newest executive members will attend the joint ASB senate session on Tuesday, March 31.
