The Lady Rebels Basketball team will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the Florida Gators on Thursday, Feb. 15 in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
Ole Miss has an overall record of 16-7 and 6-4 in the SEC, and Florida stands at 13-9 and 4-6 in the SEC. The Lady Gators have proved to be a fierce competitor as they defeated Mississippi State 90-70 on Sunday, Feb. 11 on the road.
However, the Lady Rebels mean business as they travel to Florida. They have already beaten the Gators this season –– momentum that Ole Miss hopes to bring on the road with them in order to pick up a much-needed win.
Ole Miss brings high-scorer senior guard Marquesha Davis, who has scored over 20 points in several conference games. She has also led the Rebels in scoring during non-conference games at 11.4 points per game. Senior forward Tyia Singleton has also put up some impressive stats, as she has an average of 5.4 rebounds per game.
As for the Lady Gators, they have senior guard Leilani Correa, who put up 20 points in their previous game at Mississippi State. She has seen consistent success in these SEC games and has propelled the Gators above many teams that analysts said they had no business winning.
The game against the Gators poses an opportunity for the Rebels to end their losing streak after recently falling short to the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Texas A&M Aggies. Limiting the number of turnovers will help the Rebels this week, as they had 15 against the Aggies last Thursday.
Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin has been adamant about getting the Rebels back on their feet, especially after being blown out by Texas A&M 72-53. She was disappointed in the team after a lack of effort.
“Incredibly disappointed. No fight, no effort, no maturity,” Coach Yo told the Sports News Site on3.
The Rebels will need to put up more of a fight if they want to finish the regular season strong, and it starts in Gainesville this Thursday.
What is to come after Florida?
Assuming Ole Miss gets the win on the road, which is not guaranteed, the Rebels have time to get back on track. They will have back-to-back home games against Mississippi State and Georgia when they return from Florida.
The game against Mississippi State will take place on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. and Georgia next Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
