Lakerrian Ruffin, 20, was taken into custody and charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault on Monday, March 4, in connection to a shooting that took place at The Links at Oxford, according to the Oxford Police Department.
The male victim, who remains unidentified, suffered a gunshot wound. He is currently in stable, but critical condition at Regional One Health in Memphis, Tenn. after being transferred from Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
OPD initially posted a public safety alert to their social media platforms at 5:45 p.m. encouraging people to stay away from The Links at Oxford due to an incident and a large police presence.
The department later clarified that it was not an active shooter incident, and reported by 7 p.m. that the suspect was in custody.
Ruffin’s bond was set at $250,000 by the Municipal Court Judge, but a hold was placed on Ruffin by the Mississippi Department of Corrections. After Ruffin was detained, a search warrant was executed at his residence, where a large quantity of narcotics was found.
In their press release, OPD thanked the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, Lafayette County Metro Narcotics and the Oxford Fire Department for their assistance. Those with information relevant to the ongoing investigation are encouraged to reach out to OPD at 662-232-2400 or CrimeStoppers at 662-234-8799.
