The Associated Student Body election season has begun, and candidates are lining across the Union Plaza passing out stickers as they promote their candidacy for executive office positions.
The candidates will table in front of the Union Plaza throughout the third and fourth weeks of March leading up to election day. The executive officer candidate debate will be held on Thursday, March 19 in the Gertrude C. Ford Student Union.
Students will vote for ASB officers on Tuesday, March 24 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on myOleMiss. Election results will be on the same day at 7:30 p.m. at a block party held in front of the Lyceum.
If the election results in a runoff, the competing candidates will get one more day of tabling before the runoff election voting day. Students can vote in runoff elections on Thursday, March 26 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on myOleMiss.
PRESIDENT CANDIDATES
Jalon Hightower is a junior political science and multi-disciplinary studies double major from Kosciusko, Miss. Hightower currently serves as the Committee Chair for Inclusion and Cross-Cultural Engagement in the ASB Senate, and he is running his campaign under the slogan “Let’s Go Higher.”
OC Williford is a junior public policy major from Madison, Miss. She has served as the president’s chief of staff and is running her campaign on the platform “Lock the Vote.” Williford wants to use her campaign to emphasize unity in the student body.
VICE PRESIDENT CANDIDATES
Eli Keel is a junior public policy leadership major from Vinemont, Ala. He currently serves as the special advisor on graduate student council and faculty senate relations in the president’s cabinet. He is campaigning with an emphasis in providing more support for ASB senators and their projects.
Corey Kingery is a sophomore public policy leadership major from Meridian, Miss. She currently serves as an ASB senator. Kingery is using her campaign to promote uplifting student voices and making an impact through student leadership.
Josie McCarey is a sophomore international studies major from Marietta, Ga. McCarey is promoting her campaign on a platform of increasing accessibility to community resources and creating more transparency between ASB and the student body.
Trey McKean is a junior public policy major from Fairhope, Ala. He currently serves as an ASB senator on the athletics committee. McKean is running his campaign under the slogan “Cost, Care and Create,” which promotes increasing affordability and access to mental health care resources on campus.
Brady D. Moore is a junior double major in public policy leadership and history from Lovington, Ill. Moore currently serves as the committee chair of academics in the ASB Senate. Moore is using his campaign to platform to empower the student community.
SECRETARY CANDIDATE
Caroline Croley is a junior public policy leadership major from Atlanta. She has served as ASB secretary this past year and is running unopposed for re-election. Croley is running under the slogan “Success, Service and Support” and wants to use her re-election to build off the work she has already done as ASB secretary.
TREASURER CANDIDATES
Jackson Doss is a sophomore accounting and public policy double major from Oxford. He currently serves as the head deputy comptroller in the ASB Treasury. His campaign slogan is “Doss Delivers Dollars,” which promotes his promise to give more money back to registered student organizations on campus.
Paul Winfield is a sophomore public policy leadership major from Vicksburg, Miss. He currently serves as an ASB senator. He is running his campaign under the slogan “Money Talks, Paul Listens.” Winfield wants to promote increased transparency in ASB’s money management and sourcing.
ATTORNEY GENERAL CANDIDATES
Lucy Allen is a junior public policy leadership major from Brookhaven, Miss. She has served as the deputy attorney general of elections engagement in the ASB Department of Justice. Allen is using her campaign to promote fairness, transparency and communication between ASB and the student body.
Alex Griggs is a junior psychology major from Atlanta. He has served as the vice chair on the committee of governmental operations on the ASB Senate. Griggs is using his campaign to promote a platform on increasing trust between ASB and the student body, especially concerning ASB elections.
JUDICIAL CHAIR CANDIDATE
Ashlyn Minga is a junior biomedical engineering student from Hattiesburg, Miss. She has served as the vice judicial chair and as a general member on the judicial board. Minga’s campaign slogan is “Ashlyn’s Here for YOU,” which encourages student growth and success.
SENIOR CLASS PRESIDENT CANDIDATE
Ella Key is a junior finance major from Diamondhead, Miss. She served as the deputy attorney general of the code and constitution in the department of justice. Key’s goal as senior class president would be to represent the voices of her peers.
SENIOR CLASS VICE PRESIDENT CANDIDATES
Elisabeth Miller is a junior chemical engineering and public policy leadership double major from Corpus Christi, Texas. She currently serves as the committee chair of housing in the ASB Senate. Miller is running her campaign on a platform of remembrance that she is using to promote giving back to the student community.
Elle Nassar is a junior public policy leadership major from Cleveland, Miss. Nassar is running her campaign on a platform of service, emphasizing how she wants to give back to the university community.
