The Lady Rebels Soccer team continued their strong momentum by extending their win streak to three after defeating UT Martin 1-0 at home on Aug. 28.
Ole Miss started fast, with sophomore defender Tate Blincoe scoring the first goal on a shot to the top left corner at the 20:52 mark. Blincoe’s offensive efforts came alongside a strong overall defensive performance in the first half by the Lady Rebels.
Blincoe’s goal carried the Rebels to halftime with a 1-0 lead over the Skyhawks.
The Lady Rebels’ strong play continued in the second half. Sidney O’Billovich and Taylor Prigge each recorded saves for Ole Miss to keep a clean sheet against the Skyhawks.
Tensions rose toward the end of the match, as Ole Miss’ Isabella Gray received a red card at the 77:35 mark; moments later, UT Martin’s Mac Titus received a red card after an aggressive sequence and was ejected from the game at the 79:19 mark.
Ole Miss managed to fire off two more shots on goal in the second half but were unable to connect. The Lady Rebels finished the game with 18 total shots, three shots on goal, with only one finding the back of the net.
In a postgame interview, Ole Miss head coach Molly Rouse weighed in on the week leading up to the game.
“The exciting part (was) coming off of two double weekends, to come out and be able to put together a 90-minute performance and every single person who stepped on the field was able to contribute,” Rouse said. “That’s what we talked about the whole week. The focus was to get better and we got better tonight, which was super exciting.”
The Rebels are back at home on Thursday, Sept. 4, against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
