After a midweek win over Southern Miss on April 23, Ole Miss Softball hosted the Auburn Tigers this weekend for the final home series of the season. The Lady Rebels came out on top after a 7-2 win in today’s game.
Game one (lost 1-2)
The Rebels dropped the series opener, which caused them to fall to 3-16 in conference play.
Ole Miss scored first in the bottom of the third inning off a bases-loaded walk to Jaden Pone. Auburn right fielder Icess Tresvik hit a solo homer three innings later to tie it up.
After 11 innings, the Rebels gave up another home run to Tresvik, which put Auburn up 2-1.
Game two (won 4-2)
The Tigers took the lead early in the first inning with a sacrifice fly, but the Rebels tied the game in the third off an Auburn error.
Ole Miss scored another two runs an inning later. One of those runs was a solo home run from designated player Aynslie Furbush.
The Lady Rebels were able to hold Auburn to one run in the top of the seventh inning.
Game three (won 7-2)
The Rebels took over this fairly easily, which allowed them to win their second SEC series of the season.
Ole Miss scored first in the bottom of the first inning, but Auburn answered back by scoring in back-to-back innings between the second and third. The Rebels did not let this lead get to them, and they scored six runs in the next three innings.
The Rebels had three home runs in the third and fourth innings from Furbush, Delany Rummell and Jamie Mackayney.
What’s next?
To close the regular season, Ole Miss will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the University of Arkansas for a three-game series from May 3-5. The first game will be on Friday, May 3 at 6 p.m. and the SECNetwork+ will stream the game.
