Both Ole Miss Tennis teams took on tough opponents towards the back half of SEC play, but Isac Stromberg, Kai Milburn and Emily Welker continued their strong seasons.
Ole Miss Men’s Tennis took on two Top 10 teams recently. The Rebels defeated No. 49 Alabama, but suffered losses to No. 6 Mississippi State and No. 2 Texas.
Stromberg and Milburn’s doubles win was the lone victory over the No. 6 Mississippi State Bulldogs. The pair won 7-6, (7-4) against the No. 44 Bulldog duo, Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez.
The Rebel duo clinched their second ranked win of the week against the Alabama Crimson Tide. They defeated No. 33 Andrii Zimnokh and Vit Kalina 6-4. This win wrapped up the doubles matches and secured the doubles point in the Rebels’ 7-0 sweep of Alabama.

Women’s tennis took on three ranked opponents of their own against then-No. 3 Texas A&M, then-No. 7 Texas and No. 51 Mississippi State. Their only win was a 4-3 victory over Mississippi State. Welker had a win in all three matchups.
Welker and her doubles partner Andrea Nova are ranked No. 23 in the nation. They defeated Aggie duo, No. 8 Mia Kupres and Lucciana Perez, 6-3.
Against Texas, Welker and Nova also took down No. 53 Anastasia Abbagnato and Salma Drugdova 6-2.
While Welker’s single match against the Longhorns was not finished, she did take one of two completed games against the best singles female in the nation. Welker and No. 1 Carmen Herea played two games and ended 3-6, 6-3.
Welker also won a singles match against Mississippi State. She took down Gianna Oboniye 6-2, 6-0.
What’s next?
The women’s team will host No. 44 Alabama in Oxford on Saturday, April 4 starting at 10 a.m. The men’s team will welcome No. 48 Tennessee that same day at 1 p.m.
