As Halloween quickly approaches, you may ask yourself: “If I am a freshman in college now, what am I supposed to do to celebrate Halloween? Do I buy a costume at Walmart and wear it while I watch horror movies and eat popcorn in my dorm room? Do I go trick or treating with my friends and get weird looks because I am ‘too old for trick or treating?’”
While you still could do those, Ole Miss actually has a variety of fun events sponsored by several groups that all students can attend. Plus, most are free. Mark these down in your calendar and get ready for the spookiest week of your life!
Guyton Fall Festival – Friday Oct. 25, 5 p.m.
This Fall Festival is sponsored by Teachers of Tomorrow and the School of Education. There will be activities, snacks, games and more all for free at Guyton Hall. Although the event is not strictly Halloween, the Guyton Fall Festival is an Ole Miss tradition.
Nightmare on Rebel Drive – Friday Oct. 25, 7 p.m.
If you live in Burns, Pittman or Minor Hall you can attend this free event. It will be in the courtyard, so you won’t have to walk halfway across campus to attend. What will you find there? Hopefully something spooky!
Ole Miss Women’s Volleyball vs. Kentucky- Trunk or Treat- Saturday Oct. 27, 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Everyone loves a good Trunk or Treat. After you and your friends have gathered up more candy than you can eat in a year, you should go to support the Women’s Volleyball team in their game against Kentucky in The Pavilion.
Terror In Turner Haunted House – Wednesday Oct. 30, 7 – 10 p.m.
Missing out on haunted houses? Terror in Turner is a free haunted house in the Turner Center. You will get all the jump scares you need to make it until the next Halloween. Enter at your own risk, but don’t bring your little brother or sister!
Physics Spooky Night- Friday Nov. 1, 7 – 9 p.m.
Even though Halloween will already be over, keep the spirit going! You can see spooky physics demonstrations in a family friendly environment for free in Lewis Hall. Plus, there will be a costume contest and treats for everyone!
No matter what your interest, you can find a Halloween event you will definitely enjoy. You could even attend them all for five nights of great Halloween fun. Be safe and happy haunting!
