The Students Activities Association will host its second annual Last Day of Class Bash on Friday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Union Plaza. The carnival-themed event will celebrate the end of the 2023-2024 academic year.
The event will consist of carnival games, corndogs, cotton candy, popcorn and a photo booth.
Senior exercise science major Chance Davidson and sophomore forensic chemistry major Anne Marlowe Gremillion are co-directors of SAA’s Campus Traditions Committee and are in charge of organizing the event.
Davidson said the goal of the Last Day of Class Bash is to celebrate the hard work of students.
“The (Last Day of Class) Bash is a celebration for all the hard work that the students have put in for the academic year,” Davidson said. “ It’s a time to get students’ minds off the upcoming exam week and to have fun with their friends.”
Gremillion echoed this sentiment.
“This event specifically brings our community together to celebrate the closing of the chapter that was the 2023-2024 school year,” Gremillion said. “It also gives students an outlet to let loose and make even more connections and memories before heading into finals week.”
Jacobie Steen, a freshman music education major, plans to attend Friday’s event.
“It sounds like a really fun event, and I would love to be more involved in the Ole Miss community,” Steen said. “By meeting new people at the event, I feel like I would be more inclined to attend more events in the future.”
Steen believes this event will help him feel more connected with more students outside of his major.
“As someone from the Music Department, you don’t really have the time to meet new people from other departments. My main focus is the music building,” Steen said. “Going to the event, meeting other folks and trying to find more ways to become involved would really influence my decision to attend more SAA events.”
Gremillion has held the co-director position and been on the SAA executive council for one year. She said that these positions have changed her perspective on the importance of student programming.
“Having a greater responsibility within the organization opened many doors for me, specifically allowing me to see the true impact SAA has on the student body. The events we organize bring students of all different backgrounds and walks of life together to enjoy simple fun activities in a safe, loving environment,” Gremillion said.
Davidson, who has held an executive council position for two years, hopes that this celebration becomes a staple for students in the years to come.
“We are the heartbeat of student activity on campus and help so many people enjoy special events tailored for them,” Davidson said. “We believe that (the Last Day of Class Bash) could be a tradition for this university. We think that this is a perfect event for students to come together and wind down the final week of school.”
