Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin landed six-foot-two forward Starr Jacobs in the transfer portal, as the senior committed to the Rebels on April 17.
Jacobs began her career at the University of Texas at Arlington, becoming the two-time conference player of the year during the 2022-2023 season. Although Jacobs sat out this season at Arkansas Pine Bluff, she is looking to get back into the game.
Jacobs is an elite pickup for Coach McPhee-McCuin, averaging 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals per game.
In 2018, Jacobs was a three-star recruit coming out of high school in Duncanville, Texas, winning back-to-back state championships, according to ESPN. Jacobs is efficient from the floor as well, shooting 50% from the floor in 2022-2023, and 54% in 2021-2022. She also makes for a great defender, as she made All Defensive Team in the WAC. In the same year, Jacobs also added Player of the Year to her resume.
Coach McPhee-McCuin expressed high praise for Jacobs.
“Starr is just that … a star! (She is a) talented player that will impact our program immediately!” McPhee-McCuin said in a press release.
Making it to round 32 this past season, three starters are set to return to the women’s team. Coach McPhee-McCuin has reloaded the Ole Miss Basketball team going into next season, as Jacobs is the third portal commit of the offseason with more to follow.
Landing Starr Jacobs in the portal might just be the start to an electric start for Coach McPhee-McCuin and Ole Miss.
