The No. 5 Ole Miss men’s golf team traveled 130 miles south to compete in the Mossy Oak Collegiate hosted by Mississippi State. The competition marks the last event of the regular season before the team will travel to Georgia and begin postseason matches at the SEC Championship.
The Rebels wrapped up 36 holes on the first day of the Mossy Oak Collegiate with an 11-under score, earning 3rd place as they head into the second and final rounds. They put up a 282 (-6) on round one and a 283 (-5) on round two. Ole Miss was second for the par-5 scoring (-16).
Cameron Tankersley posted a 7-under overall score in his two rounds, with a 67 (-5) in round one. Tankersley tied for 4th place on the leaderboard, looking to earn back-to-back top-5 finishes for the first time in his career.
Tim Tillmanns scored an even first round but climbed up 16 spots on the leaderboard with a 69 (-3) second round to make him tied for 16th.
Michael La Sasso and Collins Trolio were tied for 28th. La Sasso shot a 72 (E) for both rounds and hoped to climb the ladder in the final round. Trolio started with a 75 (+3) and then fired a 69 (-2). Overall, both Rebels held an even score at the end of day one.
Tom Fischer scored 71(-1) on the first course and fell to a 75 (+3), tying him up for 43rd place at a 2-under overall. Just behind him was Kye Meeks, who had a 3-over on the day and was tied for 47th. Additionally, Patton Samuels goes into the final round with a 5-over, tied for 56th.
Round three ended with a 287(-1) for the Rebels, and they finished the course with an 852 (-12), placing second behind Auburn by 34 strokes in total.
La Sasso hit one 2-under par, one in the first nine holes and one in the second nine. He ended round three with a 70(-2). Kye Meeks scored the same at the end of round three.
Trolio followed behind with a 71(-1). Tankersley ended round three with a 73(+1), getting three 1-under par in the first nine holes, while Samuels scored the same with two 1-under pars in the first nine holes. Fischer scored even in the last nine holes, but ended with a 77(+5).
The Rebels will begin their postseason rounds Wednesday, April 24, where they will square up against 13 other teams before the SEC Championship concludes on April 28.
