Ole Miss Women’s Golf claimed its first win of the season at the Boilermaker Classic, hosted by Purdue University, on Monday, Sept. 1 and Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The tournament was held at the Kampen-Cosler Course in West Lafayette, Ind. The par-72 championship course, designed by golf course architect Pete Dye, tested competitors.
The Lady Rebels held a slim advantage after the first two rounds. They carded a 578 (+2) and had a two-stroke lead over Indiana heading into the third and final round.
Freshman Matilda Björkman made an impressive debut. She led Ole Miss with a five-under-par performance. Her first round was highlighted by four birdies on the front nine.
Filippa Sundquist followed with a one-under first round to place her in 16th place. Kajsalotta Svarvar and Sophie Linder both finished round two at three-over.
Björkman cooled off in round two, scoring a +3 alongside Sundquist. Linder and Mary Miller both carded +1, while Svarvar led the Lady Rebels with a -3.
Ole Miss cleaned up its play in round three. Björkman, Svarvar and Linder finished at -1, -2 and -3, respectively. Linder played strongly on the front nine, carding three birdies.
Björkman also recorded an eagle on a par 4 but canceled it out with a double bogey on the following hole.
Sundquist and Miller both shot over par for the round. Five Rebels finished in the Top 20, with Björkman leading Ole Miss in third place at three-under for the tournament.
The Rebels now face a quick turnaround for their next competition. They wrap up the competition at the Cougar Classic for the fifth consecutive year today.
