The Rebels earned their third win of the season against ACC opponent Wake Forest with a final score of 40-6 on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Rebels lost 30-38 when they last played Wake Forest in 2008. In this matchup, Jaxson Dart impressed with 337 yards and three touchdowns alongside two touchdowns from Henry Parrish Jr.
First half
Ole Miss started early and often on offense, taking only 1:23 to get the first score of the day on a five-play, 75-yard drive that ended in a Parrish touchdown. Parrish scored two in the first half with 85 yards.
A 75-yard passing touchdown from Dart and a 33-yard field goal by Caden Davis rounded out the Rebels’ 23-point first half. Ole Miss put up 385 yards in the first half, outgaining the Demon Deacons 385-155.
On defense, the Rebels allowed just five net rushing yards, keying in on Wake Forest running back Demond Claiborne and allowing just 16 yards on nine carries in the first half. The Demon Deacons only scored on two field goals.
Second half
With only seven points scored in the third, the second half started slow. The Rebel defense eventually came up big against Wake Forest, forcing a fumble and multiple turnovers on downs.
Dart added a 31-yard dot with a spectacular catch by Juice Wells, making it a 40-6 final score in favor of the Rebels. A convincing, yet sometimes sloppy, win powered by a defensive masterclass made the team 3-0.
Who’s next?
The Rebels will close out their non-conference matchups in Oxford on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 6:45 p.m. when they take on Georgia Southern.
